Every hardware store in the world stocks common nails. They are the plain workhorse that holds construction, crating and repair jobs together, sold by the kilo in every market from Lagos to Lima. For distributors and importers, the question is never whether to stock them, it is how to buy the right mix of sizes, finishes and packing without tying up cash in the wrong SKUs. This guide is the checklist we give buyers who order common nails in bulk, and we will have the full range on the table at the Canton Fair next week.
We are Linyi Dabao hardware Products co., ltd, a nail factory in Linyi, Shandong. We make common nails from 1 to 6 inch in Q195 and Q235 steel, bright, EG and HDG, and ship worldwide from Qingdao Port.
The Two Numbers That Sell the Fastest
A common nail is defined by length and wire gauge. Length runs 1 to 6 inch, and the gauge runs BWG 6 to 16, roughly 1.6 to 5.2mm in wire diameter. In most markets, the fast movers are 2, 3 and 4 inch in medium gauge. If you stock those three lengths plus the 1 and 6 inch edges, you cover the majority of walk-in demand without overstocking.
The Finish Mix That Keeps Every Customer
Hardware buyers do not want to chase a second supplier for zinc. A full stock of common nails should carry all three finishes:
One container can mix all three, so your shelf covers every customer from the first order.
Q195 or Q235? Stock Both
Q195 common nails drive softer and easier, the default for general markets. Q235 common nails are a touch harder and hold better in denser timber. Distributors who stock both sell more, because the contractor who nails hardwood will ask for Q235, and the carpenter who wants easy driving will take Q195. Same lengths, same finishes, two steel grades, one supplier.
Packing: Match the Market
Retail markets want small boxes with clean labels. Job-site and wholesale markets want gunny bags and bulk cartons. We pack common nails in boxes, cartons, gunny bags and custom retail packs, and a mixed container is standard here, so you do not lose shelf space to one format.
What to Check Before the Container
1. What is the exact BWG gauge, and is it consistent across the shipment?
2. Can I mix bright, EG and HDG finishes in one container?
3. Can I mix lengths and packing formats on one order?
4. What is the MOQ for a trial order, and how fast is the sample?
We answer all four the same day, and samples go out within the week.
