A screw shank nail starts as a coil of steel wire and ends as a threaded fastener that refuses to pull out of timber. Most importers buy screw nails for years without ever seeing how they are made. This article walks through the production line at a Chinese nail factory: how the thread is rolled, what Q195 and Q235 wire actually mean, which finishes survive humid markets, and what to check before you place a bulk screw nail order.
We are Linyi Dabao hardware Products co., ltd, a nail factory in Linyi, Shandong. We make screw shank nails from 1 to 6 inches in screw and ring shank, and we ship bulk orders worldwide from Qingdao Port.
From Steel Wire to Screw Shank Nail
Every screw shank nail begins as low carbon steel wire. The wire is drawn to a controlled diameter, then cut to length, pointed, headed and collated on a continuous line. The wire diameter is the first thing a factory controls tightly, because a fraction of a millimetre off shows up as jamming in nailers and bending on the job. At our plant, screw shank nails run from 0.075 to 0.16 inch in diameter and 1 to 6 inches in length, which covers most pallet, crate, formwork and general timber work.
Why the Thread Is Rolled, Not Cut
The thread is what makes a screw nail different from a common nail. Instead of being cut into the shank, the thread is rolled in under pressure. Rolled threads are stronger because the steel is compressed, not removed, so the thread resists bending and holds its grip through hard driving. That is why a screw shank nail, also sold as a threaded nail or screw nail, keeps its holding power when a smooth nail works loose under vibration.
Material: Q195, Q235 and Stainless Steel
The steel grade decides how the nail drives and how long it lasts. Screw shank nails are commonly drawn from Q195 and Q235 low carbon steel wire, with stainless steel 201, 304 and 316 available for corrosion-heavy work.
Q195 wire is softer and drives easily, a good fit for thin boards and general timber. Q235 wire is a little harder, preferred for load-bearing frames and thick sections. Stainless 304 and 316 screw nails stay rust free in marine air, coastal builds and wet workshops. A diamond point on every nail keeps the drive clean, whatever the grade.
Three Finishes: Bright, EG and Black
Screw shank nails are finished three ways, and the finish often matters more than the thread in humid climates.
Bright polished screw nails are bare and clean, the low-cost choice for indoor work where moisture is not a problem. Electro galvanized screw nails carry a thin zinc layer that shrugs off damp warehouse air. Black coated screw nails add a dark finish for a different look and extra lubrication during driving. Many importers order a mixed container of all three finishes, because each market sells a different one.
Quality Checks Before the Carton
A threaded nail is only as good as its wire and its packaging. Reliable screw shank nail manufacturers check the wire grade on every coil, verify the thread profile on a sample from each run, and confirm the diameter stays inside the ordered range. Packing is part of quality too: screw nails ship in bags, boxes or cartons, with custom OEM packing available for distributors who sell under their own brand.
Buying Screw Shank Nails from a Factory
When you source screw nails in bulk, ask for the wire grade in writing, the diameter range, the finish and the shank type on one quotation. Confirm the MOQ, the lead time and the port before you pay a deposit. A factory that answers these clearly and sends samples before production is a factory worth working with. We keep samples, catalogs and quotations ready for importers, and we support OEM service for distributors.
